Engineering Overview & Fluid Dynamics

Active contamination barrier and laminar downflow principles

The Himalayan Steel Cross Over Bench (also called Step-Over Bench) serves as the physical and regulatory demarcation line between cleanroom gowning zones (e.g., between Street Shoe Zone and Cleanroom Shoe Zone, or between Grade D and Grade C/B). Operators sit on the bench, remove street or pre-gowning footwear, swing their legs over the bench into the cleaner zone, and don dedicated cleanroom footwear without ever allowing cleanroom booties to touch the unclassified floor.

Cleanroom Construction & Architectural Design

cGMP sanitary fabrication details from our Baddi engineering works

Seamless One-Piece Top Bed

Top seat formed from 2.0 mm heavy-gauge stainless steel with deep bullnose radius edges. Zero screws or rivets on the seating face to prevent garment abrasion.

Central Segregation Baffle

Internal full-height stainless steel partition separates the 'dirty' side compartments from the 'clean' side compartments, preventing airborne dust drift under the bench.

Reinforced Tubular Under-Structure

Square hollow section (SHS) internal framework prevents flex or oil-canning when heavy operators sit down.

Ground & Polished Welds

Continuous TIG welded external seams, ground flush and polished to matching 240-grit satin finish for sanitary compliance.

Concealed Floor Anchoring

Bottom mounting plates allow secure bolting to floor tiles with sanitary stainless dome caps concealing anchor heads.

Antimicrobial Leveling Studs

Heavy-duty threaded stainless steel leveling feet with chemical-resistant non-marking rubber pads for rock-solid stability.

Standard Operating Protocol (cGMP SOP)

Standard operating guidelines and contamination control sequence

SOP REFERENCE GUIDE
Objective
To define the step-over footwear transition procedure using the Himalayan Steel Cross Over Bench.
Scope
Mandatory for all personnel crossing cleanroom gowning barriers.
Responsibility
All cleanroom entrants and change room monitors.

Step-by-Step Material Transfer Sequence

1
Approach the cross-over bench from the outer (pre-gowning) side.
2
Sit down on the cross-over bench facing the clean side, with feet still resting on the outer floor.
3
Remove your street / pre-gowning shoe from one foot; store it into the outer shoe compartment.
4
Swing that leg over the bench into the clean zone without letting your stocking foot touch the floor.
5
Don the dedicated cleanroom shoe or sterile bootie onto that foot and place it down on the cleanroom floor.
6
Repeat the procedure for the second foot: remove outer shoe, store in pigeonhole, swing leg over, don cleanroom shoe.
7
Stand up on the cleanroom side and proceed to secondary garment donning.

Sanitization & Wipe-Down Protocol

  • Sanitize top seating bed twice daily using 70% IPA cleanroom wipes.
  • Clean shoe compartments at the end of each shift with neutral cleanroom detergent.
  • Inspect under-bench area during daily floor mop cycles.

Fail-Safe Interlock Protection

  • Bullnose rounded corners eliminate skin scrapes or cleanroom fabric punctures.

Optional Engineering Customizations

Site-specific hardware adaptations

  • Dual-tier shoe compartments for higher personnel density change rooms
  • Integrated glove / waste bin dispenser bracket welded to bench end
  • Laser-etched 'DIRTY ZONE / CLEAN ZONE' directional arrows on top bed
  • Removable perforated bottom trays for easy sanitization of shoe bays
  • Stainless steel grab handrail on one end for operator balance assistance

Quality Validation Package (DQ/IQ/OQ)

Audit-ready documentation for US FDA and EU-GMP inspections

  • Design Qualification (DQ) Documentation & Change Room Layout CAD
  • Installation Qualification (IQ) Anchoring & Leveling Protocols
  • Material Test Certificate (EN 10204 Type 3.1) with Spectrometer Verification
  • Surface Roughness (Ra) Test Certificate (<0.4 µm on top seat)

Cleanroom Design Highlights

  • Seamless bullnose rounded edges prevent snagging or tearing of delicate cleanroom suits
  • Central internal barrier partition keeps street footwear isolated from cleanroom booties
  • Heavy-duty reinforced stainless construction supports multiple operators simultaneously
  • Mirror-buffed seating surface allows effortless sterile alcohol wipe-down
