Engineering Overview & Fluid Dynamics

Active contamination barrier and laminar downflow principles

The Himalayan Steel Horizontal Laminar Air Flow Clean Bench provides high-purity ISO Class 5 laminar air streaming horizontally from the rear HEPA filter face toward the front operator opening. Because airflow moves in a straight horizontal vector across the entire work surface, tall bottles, test tube racks, and analytical apparatus do not disrupt the clean airflow over items placed upstream. This design offers superior contamination protection for non-toxic pharmaceutical formulations and cell culture media preparations.

Cleanroom Construction & Architectural Design

cGMP sanitary fabrication details from our Baddi engineering works

Rear HEPA Air Distribution Plenum

Acoustically damped and aerodynamically contoured rear plenum ensures air exits the entire HEPA surface at uniform velocity across all quadrants.

Electropolished Spill-Proof Bed

Work bed manufactured from single-sheet SS 316L with smooth rounded edges and a dished perimeter to contain liquid spills.

Aerodynamic Front Airflow Foil

Curved stainless steel front sill creates a laminar slipstream that prevents eddy currents and turbulence at the operator interface.

Heavy-Duty Centrifugal Impeller

Dynamically balanced forward/backward curved motorized blower equipped with multi-speed adjustment control.

Sanitary Gel Knife-Edge Clamping

Filter frame clamped against fluid gel sealing bed with perimeter tension bolts for zero bypass.

Mobile Tubular Floor Frame

Structural 304 SS tubular under-bench stand fitted with 4 heavy-duty castors (2 lockable) and leveling rubber base pads.

SOP REFERENCE GUIDE
Objective
To specify instructions for operating the Himalayan Steel Horizontal Laminar Air Flow bench for sterile transfers.
Scope
Applies to all microbiology media pouring, culture work, and non-toxic sterile handling.
Responsibility
Lab Technicians, Microbiologists, and Cleanroom Operators.

Step-by-Step Material Transfer Sequence

1
Turn on the power switch and start the motor blower 15 minutes before commencing work.
2
Verify the Magnehelic gauge reading shows normal operational range (8 to 18 mm WC).
3
Ensure the UV lamp is extinguished before sitting down at the workstation.
4
Wipe down the entire stainless steel work bed from the rear HEPA face toward the front edge using 70% filtered IPA.
5
Stage items in the clean bench so that critical open containers are positioned closest to the rear HEPA face.
6
Perform all operations without inserting hands between the HEPA face and open sterile vessels.
7
Upon completion, remove all containers, wipe down the worktop, and turn off the blower.

Sanitization & Wipe-Down Protocol

  • Clean work bed before each use with 70% IPA.
  • Clean side clear acrylic panels with mild non-ammonia detergent and soft cleanroom microfiber.
  • Clean pre-filters monthly with warm purified water.

Fail-Safe Interlock Protection

  • Do not use HLAF clean benches for biohazardous pathogens, cytotoxic agents, or volatile toxic chemicals.
  • UV lamp interlock cuts off automatically when LED light is switched on.

Optional Engineering Customizations

Site-specific hardware adaptations

  • Fuel gas and vacuum utility service fixtures with brass needle valves
  • Transparent front night cover blind with magnetic latching
  • Magnehelic gauge with electronic limit alarm switches
  • Stainless steel hanging utility rail for micro-pipettors
  • Flameproof motor blower construction for ATEX Zone 2 environments

Quality Validation Package (DQ/IQ/OQ)
